Wind Blown

Whether you go with an unconventional palette, as we did, or opt for more traditional autumn colours, you'll love making this quilt where graphic maple leaves twirl and dance in the wind. The Creative Grids Kitty Cornered Tool makes quick work of transforming fat quarters into leaves of various sizes, so prepare to be blown away!
Skill Level:
Pattern: Blown Away by Christine Quilts (SKU 873005) Fabric: Leaves: 9 fat quarters Background and Border: 3.2 m Ruler: Creative Grids Kitty Cornered Tool (SKU 128778) Supplies: Sewing machine in good working condition, with manual, all accessories, and new Microtex 80/12 needle. Don't forget your power cord and foot control; 1/4" foot; Mary Ellen's Best Press (SKU 14225) Marking pen, pencil, or other fine-tipped marker that will show up on your background fabric; 8.5" x 24.5" acrylic ruler (SKU 109597) OR Stripology XL ruler (SKU 1209676); Rotary cutter; Thread: 100% cotton 50-wt (Konfetti); Masking tape and pen; Basic sewing kit: Seam ripper, awl, sharp straight pins, thread snips, etc. Before class: We'll be making at least one large leaf in class, but we'll prepare for some extras, just in case. 1/ Treat and iron one or two fat quarters (for your leaves) with Mary Ellen's. Cut as per the second cutting map on page 1 of your pattern (the one for 1 large, 1 medium leaf). I'll demonstrate cutting with the Stripology ruler in class if you'd like to switch to that method for the rest of your cutting; 2/ Treat and iron your background fabric with Mary Ellen's; 3/ Cut your background fabric as indicated on page 2 of your pattern. Sort your pieces and put into labelled baggies (you will thank me for this advice!). This is the cutting required for the entire quilt, but for class you should bring the pieces needed for the large and medium blocks, as per the chart on page 1 of your pattern. If you have any questions, call us at 613-834-3044 and we'll sort it out.
