Windblown Quilt
-Blown Away pattern by Christine Quilts
-Creative Grids Kitty Cornered Ruler
Fabric:
-Leaves: 9 fat quarters
-Background and Border: 3.2 m
Sewing Supplies:
-Sewing machine in good working condition, with manual and all accessories including foot pedal and power cord
- new Microtex 80/12 needle
- 1/4" foot;
- Mary Ellen's Best Press
- Frixion pen
- 6.5" x 24.5" acrylic ruler OR Stripology XL ruler
- rotary cutter
- 100% cotton 50-wt thread such as Konfetti
- Masking tape, pen, and baggies (very helpful for staying organized);
- Basic sewing kit: Seam ripper, awl, sharp straight pins, thread snips, etc.
Before class:
We'll be making at least one large leaf in class, but come prepared for some extras, just in case.
1/ Treat and iron one or two fat quarters (for your leaves) with Mary Ellen's. Cut as per the second cutting map on page 1 of your pattern (the one for 1 large, 1 medium leaf). I'll demonstrate cutting with the Stripology ruler in class if you'd like to switch to that method for the rest of your cutting;
2/ Treat and iron your background fabric with Mary Ellen's;
3/ Cut your background fabric as indicated on page 2 of your pattern. Sort your pieces and put into labelled baggies (you will thank me for this advice!). This is the cutting required for the entire quilt, but for class you should bring the pieces needed for the large and medium blocks, as per the chart on page 1 of your pattern. Because this is a two-part class, you will have time for supervised cutting in class if you are feeling unsure.
