Winter Woods (introduction to improv)

Are you intrigued by improvisational (improv) piecing but aren't ready to jump in with both feet?  This project might be the one for you.  We will work on a guided introduction to improv - as in, there's a pattern and instructions to follow.  We will discuss fabric selection, embellishment and quilting in the class as we create a winter-themed  62" X  68" wall or throw quilt.

Class Requirements:

-Winter Woods pattern

-fabrics for the background as indicated on pattern

-neutral coloured thread for piecing such as Konfetti 

-sewing machine in good working order

-80/12 Microtex needle

-Mary Ellen's Best Press

-a chalk pencil or marking tool so you can mark on darker fabric

-rotary cutter

-24" X 6.5" acrylic ruler

Pre Class Preparation

1. Complete all cutting as indicated below, prior to class

Fabric A
-cut as indicated on page 1 of pattern

Fabric B
-cut border and sashing strips only as indicated on page 1 of pattern

-Fabric C
-cut  one 7" strip and one 6.5" strip only

-Fabric D
-cut as indicated on page 1 of pattern

-Fabric E
-cut as indicated on page 1 of pattern

Please complete your background, prior to the first class.  Steps 1-10 are on pages 2 and 3 of the pattern.

Bring all your fabric (including any extra background fabric to the first class).

Skill Details:
For this class you will need to cut with a rotary cutter and a ruler. Change stitch lengths on your machine. Sew a 1/4" seam. Work with bias cuts and make decisions as you go.
