Metro Rings Class

Supply List:

- Sew Kind of Wonderful Metro Rings Pattern

- Quick Curve Ruler

- fabric marking tool of your choice

- 45mm rotary cutter (MUST be 45mm)

- 1/4" foot

- basic sewing kit (seam ripper, pins, thread snips, etc.)

- 1 jelly roll or 35 21/2" width of fabric strips

- 5 yards (or meters) of background fabric

- 1/2 meter of 2 different fabrics OR 1 m of one fabric for setting triangles

- fabric with which to practice: two sets of (5) 21/2"x20" strips of different colours sewn into two strip sets; a fat quarter for practice background shapes; and two 41/2" squares of practice fabric for setting triangles

- sewing machine in good working order with owner's manual (you are responsible for knowing how to operate your own machine - this includes such things as threading your machine, winding a bobbin and changing stitch lengths. A private lesson to learn how to operate your machine can be scheduled prior to your class, if necessary.)

Before the Class

1. Make two practice strip sets (each strip set is made of five 2 1/2" strips, 20" long).
2. Cut two 9"squares from practice background fabric and cut them in half diagonally.
3. Cut four 2 3/4" x 10" strips from practice background fabric.
3. From your project fabric: Cut assorted 21/2" fabric strips, background fabric, and setting triangle fabric as per cutting directions of pattern.


Note on selecting fabrics for strip sets: The more colours you select, the more challenging it is to have a consistent colour flow throughout your quilt.

Skill Level: Intermediate

Skill Details: It is expected that students are able to sew an accurate 1/4" as well as adjust the stitch length on their machine. While students will be taught how to cut curved pieces in the class, it is also expected that they be able to safely and accurately cut with a rotary cutter and ruler.
