Blue Onion

You will need:

Pattern: Blue Onion by Saginaw Street Quilts

Ruler: Ovals Always by Creative Grid (not essential, but it is the method I will be teaching). If you choose to not use Ovals Always, please prepare your templates before class. I suggest ironing 3 or 4 layers of freezer paper together (all facing down, so that a shiny side is on the bottom and a matte side is on the top) and then tracing/cutting the templates. Label on the matte side.
 
Fabric:

EITHER 0.35 m EACH of 6 dark-valued prints or solids and 0.35 m EACH of 6 medium-valued prints or solids
OR a variety of coordinating fabrics, enough to yield (36) 12.5" x 14" rectangles (I think I used about 20 fabrics, with the green Kona Sheen used multiple times. The more the merrier!)
 
Supplies:

• Sewing machine in good working order, with a new Microtex 80/12 needle, accessories, manual, power cord and foot control;
• ¼" foot;
• Neutral-coloured 50-wt cotton thread (Konfetti) for top and bobbin;
• 45mm rotary cutter with a sharp (ie new) blade;
• Awl (you will need this for sewing the curves);
• 6.5" x 12.5" or 3.5" x 18" acrylic ruler;
• Stripology Squared ruler (not essential but highly recommended for squaring up the finished blocks);
• Rotating cutting mat (not essential, but recommended for final squaring);
• Basic sewing kit: Thread snips, sharp pins, seam ripper, etc.
• Best Press or Easy Press
